TICA brings the Capital Cat Classic to Waldorf

The International Cat Association (TICA) brought the Capital Cat Classic to Waldorf for the first time and feline lovers from all over flocked to the event.

The Capital Cat Classic was held on April 2 and April 3 at the Capital Clubhouse in Waldorf featuring experienced guest judges who chose their favorite cats in each competition. Visitors saw more than 100 cats from various breeds, including cats from the Tri-County Animal Shelter, and heard the judges describe the breeds' colors and characteristics, while each cat competed for awards and received recognition of their breed.

"This is the first time ever that TICA has done a cat show in Waldorf. We've done one in La Plata in 2005 and a fantastic opportunity presented itself to have it at the Capital Clubhouse," said Anthony Hutcherson, author of TICA World of Cats: "All Kinds of Purrfect" coloring book.

The Capital Cat Classic had 104 exhibitors and 130 cats shown some from all over the world, including Hutcherson's Bengal cat, which according to TICA is currently the No. 7 cat in the world. Sponsors for Capital Cat Club's TICA show include Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Products and ViaGen Pets, a global leader in animal genetic preservation and cloning services.

Kansas State University veterinary medicine researchers pave way to identify antiviral treatment for deadly infectious cat disease

A new research project in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University has been successful in treating a deadly cat disease that has previously been nearly 100 percent fatal.

Yunjeong Kim, an associate professor in the college's diagnostic medicine and pathobiology department, has worked with collaborators in diverse fields to develop an antiviral compound for feline coronavirus associated with feline infectious peritonitis, more commonly known as FIP.

Her article, "Reversal of the Progression of Fatal Coronavirus Infection in Cats by a Broad-Spectrum Coronavirus Protease Inhibitor," has just been published in the journal PLOS Pathogens.

National events company Amazing Pet Expos announced a partnership with The International Cat Association (TICA) as part of the planned events at the 7th Annual Phoenix Pet Expo in Scottsdale, Ariz., April 16-17. Desperados Cat Fanciers cat club, licensed by TICA, will bring more than 125 cats to compete for big wins both days of the expo at the 9th Annual Spring Shootout Cat Show.

Feline enthusiasts of all ages will enjoy simultaneous judging of cats in four rings, have the opportunity to talk with feline experts, and be able to enjoy cuddly cats up close and personal at the TICA booth. Many of the 63 TICA-recognized cat breeds and household pet cats will attend and compete for wins.

キム・ユンジョン准教授は、FIPとして一般的に知られる猫伝染性腹膜炎に関連する猫のコロナウイルスに対する抗ウイルス薬を開発するためにさまざまな分野の研究者とともに研究を行ってきました。
「FIPはコロナウイルス感染症により引き起こされます。コロナウイルス感染症は猫に非常によくみられます。多くの場合、これらのウイルス感染は軽度で自然治癒性の腸炎を引き起こすか、または無症状です。しかし、猫の中には死に至る疾患であるFIPを発症するものもいます」
キム氏は、FIPは通常2、3歳未満の若い猫が発症すると言います。
「FIPには主に滲出型と非滲出型の2つがあります。滲出型がより多くみられ、腹部または胸腔の液体貯留を特徴とします。症状として抗生物質に無反応の発熱、黄疸、滲出液、体重減少などが見られます。典型的な臨床症状が発現すると、急速に進行し、数週間から数ヶ月で死に至ります」
研究結果は、ウイルス複製抑制がFIP治療に対する鍵であることを示しています。
「今回、初めてFIPの進行期にある実験用の猫の治療に成功したという実験的証拠を示しました」
FIPの治療開発には多くの努力がなされてきましたが、いずれも成功していません。
「本研究から得られた知識は、人と動物においてFIPと他のコロナウイルス感染症の原因を理解するために一歩前進しています」
キムは、FIPに対してプロテアーゼ阻害剤を開発するために集学的チームとともに取り組んでいます。
「次のステップは、この抗ウイルス治療薬がさまざまな臨床症状を示す自然に獲得されたFIPを発症した猫に対していかに効果的であるかを解明することです」とキム氏は述べています。

Amazing Pet Exposは、4月16～17日にアリゾナ州スコッツデールの第7回フェニックス・ペット・エキスポで予定されたイベントの一環としてTICAと提携することを発表しました。Desperados Cat Fanciersキャットクラブは第9回Annual Spring Shootout Cat Show でエキスポの両日に賞を競うため125頭以上の猫を出場させる予定です。
キャットショーに加え、博覧会では犬のフライボール競技やフリースタイルダンスなども開催する予定です。
来場者は、低価格で予防接種、マイクロチップ、無料の爪切りを受けられます。今年は2つのステージでコンテストが行われます。イベントは毎年25,000名以上の来場者を魅了しています。

Venus the Two Face Cat Is Coming to the Denver County Fair, July 29-31

When the Denver County Fair returns to the National Western Complex on July 29 for its annual extravaganza, it will have a purrfect new face representing the event: Venus the Two Face Cat.

2つの顔を持つ猫、ビーナスがデンバー・カウンティ・フェアにやってくる。
